Modern Forge Vacancies: Merrillville, Indiana


CNC Operator: Responsible for performing work related to CNC Lathe, Engine Lathe, Milling Machine, Saw, and Drill Press. This includes the completion of all relevant machining and documentation of jobs. Assist in the development of programming and maintenance procedures and manufacturing practices. Interface directly with internal customers or departments to deliver an estimate of completion and tooling requirements of individual projects. The candidate must be able to read and interpret 3D models, use micrometers, gages, and other various inspection equipment. Have prior experience as a CNC Operator, have the ability to review part prints and assure machining accuracy. Ability to troubleshoot CNC programs for issues and errors and have a strong math background. Must be a creative problem solver with excellent inter-personal and communication skills. Minimum of 3+ years experience as a CNC Operator. Must be able to work any shift.   

CAD Designer:  Responsible for creating basic 2D and 3D forging part drawings/models on a CAD workstation to support Engineering Estimating and various plant departments.

Millwright: This position will be responsible to troubleshoot, repair and maintain plant equipment including: mechanical forging presses, programmable forging hammers, hydraulic coining presses, shot blast cleaning equipment, motors, pumps, valves, conveyors, and compressors. Mig and stick welding and fabrication experience is required. Must be able to read mechanical blue prints, hydraulic schematics, and all types of measuring tools. Basic knowledge of electricity is a plus. A minimum 5 years experience is required.  Must be able to work any shift.

Forge Helper: Operates after forge equipment, as qualified, while moving raw material and/or platters through the required dies in the required sequence. Includes participating in the setting and adjusting of forge tooling, also adjusting trim press parameters and may also include furnance loading and operation. The forge crew members produce a variety of steel forgings to customer specifications. Must be able to work any shift.

Tooling Repair: This position will be responsible for pre-staging all tools, making repairs to tools in and out of production, reviewing disposition of tools after production and performing change over of tools. Candidates should be mechanically inclined. Must be able to make repairs on tooling using hand tools and milling machine. Must have the ability to learn to troubleshoot on forge and trim repairs and to use various hand tools, mircometers, calipers, and tape measure. Must be able to read blue prints and be able to work any shift.

Heat Treat: Responsible for all Heat Treat furnace operations, Wheelabrator operations, hardness testing, material handling, scale operations, AS400 and PC data entry, and any inventory functions related to all product being processed. Must be able to work any shift. 

Cold Finisher: Responsible for finishing operations which includes cleaning parts, sawing cross rolls, coin operations, jiffy operations, tsugami operations, magnaflux operations, inspection, material handling, scale and dock operations and shipping/inventory functions to all product being processed. Must be able to work any shift.

Project Engineer/Trainee:                                                                                                                                                                                                    Provides leadership and support to all manufacturing departments with an emphasis on developing process documentation, standards, quality improvement, and cost reductions. Investigates and justifies new technologies and processes to improve our cost competitiveness and assists project engineers in the development of new products and the manufacture of prototype parts to assure a successful product launch. Work is performed under the supervision of the Engineering Manager and Project Engineers.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            Essential Functions: Very proficient in CAD and 3D, preferably AutoCad and/or Solid Works. Confers with planning and design staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods. Works with forging operators and aims to understand the process and how to improve. Works with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes. Applies statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements and potential. All other duties as assigned.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      Work is performed both in an office setting and on the shop floor. Time will be spent as a 50/50 ratio between an office setting and the manufacutring floor. The associate must be able to lift items up to 40 pounds. The noise level in the office environment is usually quiet; however, may be exposed to loud noise levels while performing responsibilities in the manufacturing areas.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                Success Factors: Strong proficiency with CAD, strong desire and patience to learn and develop skills, strong mechanical aptitude, understanding of Hydraulics, Forging Process, or Pneumatics a plus, ability to communicate and distribute information to others both orally and in writing, ability to follow safety policies and procedures, proficient in problem solving and troubleshooting parts, ability to apply mathematical concepts and operations, willingness to be an active, hands on participate in a manufacturing facility during the development and implementation of new processes.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      Associates degree in Engineering technologies or related field either complete or in progress. Experience in manufacturing or mechanical field. 

Manufacturing/Project Engineer:                                                                                                                                                                              Provides leadership support to all manufacturing departments with an emphasis on developing process documentation, standards, quality improvements, and cost reductions. Investigates new technologies and processes to improve our cost competitiveness and overall customer service levels. Also, provides support to project engineers in the development of new products and the manufacture of prototype parts by performing the following duties. Work is performed under the direct supervison of the Engineering Manager.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          Essential Functions: Coordinate the cost estimating efforts on selected new potential products. Develops evaluates, and improves manufacturing methods. Analyzes and plans work force utilization, space requirements, and workflow and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency. Confers with planning and design staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods. Confers with vendors to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, and evaluates products according to specifications and quality standards. Estimates production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions. Confers with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes. Applies statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements and potential.
